While playing at a friend’s house, Emma discovered some old school fisher price “little people”. Remember the ones with straight little bodies and no arms and legs?
Well, she had so much fun playing with them that I decided to make some of my own.
This idea is nothing new. There are images of wooden peg people all over pinterest, but I had an absolute blast designing my own. I felt like a little girl again imagining all their outfits and hair styles. (You might remember my obsession with little things… I just can’t resist their complete adorableness!)
Once the kids saw me painting they had to join in the fun too 🙂
We started with these…
We found them in the wood section at Hobby Lobby, but I am sure most craft stores would have them.
It had been years since I had done any acrylic painting so I purchases some new paints. I couldn’t resist these pretty colors from Martha Stewart….
Then we started painting. We had so much fun that I completely forgot to take pictures of the process, but they turned out completely adorable.
First up, the ladies.
And the boys…
And a few more pics just for fun…
When we were finished painting we brushed on a few protective coats of this stuff…
Here are the ones Emma painted..
And here is one that Abby did…
I helped her with the eyes and mouth, but she did the rest all by herself! Didn’t it turn out amazing!? She was so proud!
After we finished with the dolls, all we needed was a little house for the people to live in. I stopped by the thrift store and could not believe my luck when I found this old school fisher price house for $9!!!
The house was disgustingly filthy, but nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t fix.
I removed most of the stickers and spent about an hour scrubbing it with soft scrub and a tooth brush.
All the kids were thrilled to see the new little home for their people!
I think she likes it 🙂
