Witches, wizards, potions and brooms… I think most every child dreams about the world of magic. I know I certainly did! The Harry Potter Books came out when my kids were too little to read them, but I fell in love them right away. I even threw a Harry Potter Party for all of my adult friends when the 7th book came out. Then a few years later my oldest daughter, Cora, fell in love with the series… and, of course, we threw another party. And now my son, Isaac, has caught the Harry Potter Fever, so it was time once again for us to pull out our potion making skills and start preparing the grand feast!
Happy 9th Birthday Isaac.
We decided to have a mini day at Hogwart’s school of witchcraft and wizardry full of all the typical Harry Potter classes.
We began by taking a short quiz to find out which house each of the boys belonged in. Then we all took a trip to Ollivander’s Wand Shop to get our supplies…
I made the wands by using brown sculpy clay and molding them into handle shapes then hot glueing them on to the end of a chopstick. I made all the brown ones and my little Emma (6) decided that she needed a pink one so she made that one 😉
We also made little lightening bolt necklaces out of clay.
And what would a wand be without a book of spells? I found this great printable version here.
Once they were outfitted with wands and spells it was time for Charms Class where the boys all practiced their new found talents…
After Charms came potions class. Cora (Isaac’s big sister and lover of Harry Potter) searched the house and came up with all of the crazy magical ingredients.
I found these perfect little bottles on amazon and found the eye droppers at Walgreens. Cora printed out the various potion recipes.
The boys all really enjoyed the potion making. They even came up with a few of their own.
At this point in the party, I started getting so into it that I forgot to take pictures… does that ever happen to you? It happens to me all the time! I am so bad at remembering the pictures.
Anyway… after Potions class we did divination class (found the idea here). And then we all went downstairs to hunt for the Sorcerer’s Stone. The basement was transformed into an obstacle course complete with battling Fluffy and a horrible monster (my husband) at the end. Luckily there were no casualties. And to reward them for their bravery we threw a grand feast!
I do realize that pizza isn’t really a Harry Potter Food, but it is so easy and everyone likes it so I just made a little label that read “Potter’s Pizza” and we called it good.
After the feast it was time for the much anticipated trip to Honeyduke’s Sweet Shop….
You can find the free treat bag printable here.
The best part of the whole day was watching the boys as they ate the Bertie Bott’s every flavor beans!
Man, those things are nasty.
All in all it was a great day and so much fun reliving my love for the magical world of Harry Potter.
Happy Birthday Isaac!
