Before and After Parade Day #1 The Family Room

Today I’m taking you inside my family room. It’s a challenging space since it’s incredibly narrow and although we loved our furniture inside our last home, it didn’t work so well inside this new space.

Before

Here’s the “before” from the previous owners and what it looked like when we initially walked through the house.

And here’s the “before” once we moved our furniture in. Funny how much I loved this furniture in our old house but it just didn’t mesh well in this new space… especially the clashing of the blue and teal.

And here’s the after…

After

Family Room with green velvet chairs

With so many harsh square lines, I love how the new curved furniture and tables softened up the space.

The room is a lot more comfortable now with an upholstered ottoman to put your feet up on and a high quality rug.

I’m so happy with the green velvet chairs! They are super comfy and they also swivel which makes it easier to talk to people in the kitchen or look out the back window at the lake.

It’s now a great room for the family to hang out!

Changes Made

  • Painted the walls, Wimborne White, by Farrow and Ball (color matched with Sherwin Williams paint)
  • New furniture to better fit the space
  • Added swivel chairs to easily talk to people in the kitchen or look at the lake
  • Added Curtains to soften the dark wooden windows
  • Replaced coffee table with an upholstered ottoman for comfort in putting your feet up
  • Added better lamps for a gentler nighttime feel
  • Replaced the rug with one that was higher quality and more durable

Lessons Learned

  • It’s CRAZY how a fresh coat of paint can change a room!
  • It’s ok to put nursery furniture in your living room! Those green velvet chairs are from Crate and Kids and they are my favorite.
  • Curtains do a great job of finishing up a space and adding softness.
