MORE ABOUT ME

I'm Tessie -Welcome home!

I am so excited to show you my new buffet!

Isn’t she fabulous?!

I bought this piece from an auction when we lived in England (a girl has to have a place to hold all her English pottery).  The shape and size was perfect.  It was solid and well made with dovetail joints and all.  The only problem was… it reminded me of a grandma!  It definitely needed some updating.

Since the wood was so beautiful and in really good shape I opted to leave the shell of the buffet as is and just paint the doors and the fronts of the drawers to give it a more modern feel.

First I removed all the doors and drawers. And took off all of the hardware.

Then I used a medium grit sanding wedge, some blue tape and my favorite primer to get it ready to paint.

I quickly sanded each piece to rough up the surface.  This helps the primer stick.

After sanding, I wiped everything down with a dry microfiber cloth to remove any dust and debris. Then used the spray primer.

After the primer dried.  I applied two coats (with a 2″ angled Purdy brush) of Sherwin Williams ProClassic paint in “Summer White”.  This ProClassic paint is designed for trim, but it is fabulous for furniture because of its hard finish.

I also primed and spray painted the hardware in Krylon “Gold Leaf”.

And their she is all updated and looking much more “Tessie”.

Now I just need to paint the walls in the dining room!

Linking up….
