I’ve always been obsessed with sleep, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized it’s not just a luxury but an absolutely ESSENTIAL part of my well-being. What could be better than creating a restful bedroom?
I was amazed when I married my husband and he thought it was a waste of time to take a nap or go to bed early… what??? In my mind, there was NO BETTER use of your time than taking a nap! Although I don’t catch too many naps these days, I still protect and value my sleep fiercely.
Watch the video below to take a peek inside our attic bedroom and find out my 5 tips for creating a restful and cozy space.

1. Choose a restful paint color
I honestly don’t know how we put up with the horrible paint color on our bedroom walls for almost 2 years! No matter how I would style the space, it just felt drab and sad with that depressing color.
Once we finally painted it 6 months ago, I couldn’t believe the difference it made! It changed the whole feeling of the room and brightened up the space immensely.
We painted it Wimborne White from Farrow and Ball. It’s a lovely warm white that goes perfectly with lots of spaces throughout our home.
2. Add blackout curtains for a restful bedroom
I feel like a room isn’t fully dressed without curtains on the windows! They immediately upgrade any space while adding a finished and polished feel.
Blackout curtains are an absolute MUST in our house since my husband works many late nights in the hospital.
These curtains from Overstock are heavy and luxurious without breaking the bank! They come in several different colors and are double the width of traditional curtains. I love how nice and full they look even when they’re closed.
3. Invest in a quality mattress
We decided to splurge on a quality mattress 10 years ago and it was some of the best money we’ve ever spent! It’s just as comfortable as the day we got it and I’m sure it will last us another 10 years easy.
The mattress brand is Tempurpedic and it immediately cured my achy shoulders from our previous bed.
4. Splurge on sheets for a restful bedroom
I’m a 100% cotton kind of girl, and my favorite sheets are from Pottery Barn. They’re the perfect mix of quality and comfort and definitely worth the extra money.
I love the crisp and clean feeling of climbing into bed at night and these sheets seem to get softer each time you wash them.
5. Add a luxurious blanket
And lastly, I couldn’t talk about creating a restful bedroom without telling you about my BLANKIE!!!! You guys, I’m honestly obsessed with this throw blanket from Anthroplogie. My husband gave it to me for Christmas last year and it is my absolute favorite for cuddling up with when I’m watching a show at night in my bed.
The kids are ALWAYS trying to steel it and once in a while I’ll let them use it if I’m feeling generous. Ha!
