Two simple words have made an incredible difference in my life over the last two years. The two words are love deeply and I like to think of them as my life mission.
I found myself feeling overwhelmed, pulled in many different directions, and wanting to show up in a more meaningful way for the people around me. As I prayed, meditated, and spent some quiet time thinking, I decided to create a life mission.
What’s a life mission?
It’s two words that instantly remind me of what’s important. It reminds me of how I want to show up in the world. It’s simple, easy to remember, and immediately puts things into focus.
My life mission: LOVE DEEPLY
My life mission is to “love deeply”. It’s how I want to show up at home, work, church, and inside my community. Every time I remind myself to “love deeply” it instantly puts things into perspective.
How to LOVE DEEPLY?
Loving deeply has 3 simple steps. It’s all about spending time with people, holding space, and letting them know they’re loved. Here’s what it looks like to me:
- Listen
- hold space, listen with curiosity, try not to think about what I’m going to say next. Just listen
- Encourage
- give love, remind people they’re not alone, give themselves grace
- Uplift
- share truth, let people know that they are enough exactly the way they are
That’s it! Pretty simple right? Well simple enough to understand, but harder to implement. Even though I have far to go in loving deeply, having this simple phrase has helped to center me on a daily basis.
