I'm Tessie -Welcome home!

I have had lots of questions and compliments lately about our picture of the Salt Lake Temple hanging in our family room.

We bought it online 5 years ago and it looked like this…

The black frame worked well in our old house but with our new house being so bright and cheery I really wanted to give the frame a refresh.

The picture itself doesn’t have glass and is not easily removed. Also it was too cold outside to spray paint so I decided to paint the frame with Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint.

If you have never used chalk paint before it is so easy to work with. It has a nice thick consistency and adheres beautifully. Plus no sanding and no priming! So it ends up being super quick and easy for a project like this.

Chalk paint comes in lots of pretty colors but I chose “Old White”. It is a nice creamy white that matched our built-ins well.

I began by cleaning the frame and taping off the picture with blue painter’s tape.

Then I started to paint using a nice high quality 2″ angled brush. I painted 3 coats letting the paint dry in between each coat (chalk paint dries pretty fast). Here it is after one coat….

And after 3…

Perfectly lovely! Smooth and creamy with a nice matte finish.

I am so happy with the results! It just brightens up the room and is the perfect focal point over our mantel.

Happy Painting!
