Come inside my art studio and take a tour of the basement! I know… kind of crazy that it even has a basement, but it’s a pretty incredible creative space. Watch the video below for the full tour.
Before:
When we first moved in it was a hole in the floor with a piece of plywood over the top. It was dark, scary, and looked like a place to keep the dead bodies 🙈
Scary right???
After:
During the office renovation, we added a trap door, and a ladder, sealed the walls, and added lighting! Now it serves as a place to store fabric, sew, and get MESSY.
Much better!
My husband, CJ, built this incredible pegboard for fabric and wrapping paper storage. You can see the full post about this project here.
Under the pegboard is my sewing desk 🙂
The corner of the basement is filled with water pipes and the septic system. I added giant tissue paper flowers to make it a bit prettier to look at.
Wire shelves create a great storage area with room to spare.
This glass and metal vintage cabinet is the perfect storage solution for my empty boxes and various shipping supplies.
Storage cubbies store extra fabric and many craft supplies!
I added a fun mirror to the space as well 🙂
The giant table in the center of the room is counter height so it’s perfect for cutting fabric and spreading out with larger projects.
I don’t know if I’ve ever wished I had a basement more than after seeing this! How fabulous a space – love the bright cheeriness and functionality! And what a sweet, supportive husband. 🙂 Thanks for the tour!
Thanks for the tour! That is a bit creepy in the beginning, but you’ve done an amazing job! Love that you have such a supportive spouse! Is the workshop as old as the house? I wonder what the history of the place is? Have you checked the library and deed office Hint…another video!
Tessie I love what you did with this space!!! Especially the corner with the pipes. Another idea would be to paint each of the pipes a color in your color palette to look like a functional sculpture. Or paint them the wall color so they blend in more. Thanks for sharing! Always inspiring!!
WOOOOOHOOOOO! This is fantastic! I absolutely love the big paper flower sculpture hiding the pipes- that is PURE GENIUS and looks so amazing. What a wonderful way to fashion a space that nurtures your creative spirit.

Tessie this is such a beautiful space!!!! First, I can’t believe there was a basement there, and second, what a transformation!
Right??? I have no idea why the previous owners put a basement in here, but I’m LOVING it now ❤️

Thank you Alison! It really is such a bonus to have so much storage and a place to get messy.
This is gorgeous Tessie. Can’t believe the transformation.
Thank you!! 🥰
What a lovely space! I especially like the note from your husband. So sweet! =)
He really is the best ❤️

Thanks Lori! The studio is much newer than the house. I’m not sure of the exact age but I would guess it was built in the last 20 years 🙂
